The purpose of this thesis was to examine the experiences of the team and the immediate supervisor regarding the self-organization of the team members in a remote working situation. The study aimed to find out how the participants can implement the principles of self-organization in their work in a remote working context while also providing information on possible impacts that self-organization has considering work motivation if any and examining the experiences of remote work. To perform remote work in a team effectively, and be community-oriented, a person benefits from a strong ability to be self-directed. The theory of self-governance, (Ryan, Dec, 2000) sees the individual as an actor whose goal is to strive for the goals he or she has defined and thus realize himself or herself.
